Labidochromis sp."mbamba" Ngkuyo

Labidochromis sp."mbamba" is found along the rocky coasts in the neighbourhood of Mbamba Bay and along the coast south of Mbamba Bay. However sometimes they can also be seen near Luhuchi Rocks but those examples are missing the orange-red color in the dorsal fin, instead of this they have a white border in the dorsal fin. It`s a very territorial species which defends it`s cave fiercely. In trade, this species is somtimes offered as Labidochromis Mbamba Bay, Labidochromis Luhuchi and Labidochromis Red Top Mbamba Bay. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Ngkuyo Island (Mbamba Bay Island).

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 8 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 9 cm, females grow to about 7 cm.

Labidochromis sp."mbamba" can behave intolerant against equal male species. Against other inhabitants they are in general tolerant. You can best keep this small species with multiple females and a lot of hiding places in the aquarium.

In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with little insects but also looking for food on rocks covered with algae. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
